Duncan’s heart slammed into his chest at the distressing sight of Sera disappearing with the two men out the dorm building’s door. No way could she take on two huge miscreants by herself. He needed to get out there.

He tightened his hold on the man in his arms, willing him to pass out quickly. But the man was big and strong. The guy flung back his head, hitting Duncan in the chin. Pain ricocheted through Duncan’s skull, but he gritted his teeth and tightened his hold.

With a sudden jerk, the goon twisted his torso, pushed off the ground with his legs and slammed Duncan up against the wall. The breath left Duncan’s lungs in a swoosh and his hold on the man loosened slightly, enough for the guy to squirm free. Frustration roared through Duncan as he ducked a fist aimed at his face.

Not about to let this guy get the better of him and urged on by the drive to help Sera, Duncan’s fist shot out with an uppercut, sending the man staggering backward. Duncan rushed forward to deliver another blow just as the dorm-room door behind the bruiser opened.

Angelina stepped out of the dorm room holding some sort of trophy in her hand like a baseball bat. She brought the large gold award down heavily on the bad guy’s head. He crumpled to the linoleum floor in an unconscious heap.

“Take that,” Angelina said, preparing to hit the man again.

Duncan put up a hand. “Enough. Good job.” He quickly zip-tied the man’s hands and feet together. “Call 911.”

A grunt of pain from outside sent Duncan’s heart jackknifing in his chest.

“Sera?” Angelina’s cry echoed through Duncan’s head.

He had to get to his partner.
